SUMMARY:BIPOC Farming Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The National Farmers Union in New Brunswick is hosting a series of in-person farmer-led events this year and we’re excited to announce that we’re hosting the final one in Miramichi\, New Brunswick on November 16th from 1pm – 4pm in collaboration with the Greater Miramichi Service Commission. \nAt this event we will host: \n\nAn information session\nMental health and farm safety sessions\nAnd a cooking demonstration with samples of the food prepared\n\nThis event is free and registration is encouraged but not required. \nWe are inviting current and aspiring BIPOC farmers and farm workers together to connect\, learn\, and organize together. \nAbout the session: Black\, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC) is an acronym used to identify Canadian’s ‘visible minorities’ or people who are victimized by racism and white supremacy due to the colour of their skin. There are important differences between the history and extent of colonialism experienced among the Blacks through slavery; Indigenous people through genocide\, and the People of Colour through more recent racist immigration policies. The training and workshop aims to discuss and identify challenges faced by BIPOC in the food production system and seek concrete solutions to overcome them.
