Farming for the Future: NFU Region 1 Convention – Aug 10, 2016

 

We invite you to attend the 2016 Region 1 Annual Convention on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at the Cornhill Community Hall 1205 Baseline Road, Cornhill, NB.  Registration will begin at 9:30 am.  Come early for coffee and homemade baking!   Convention will begin at 10 am and adjourn at 4:15 pm.  The registration fee is $20 and includes lunch at Cornhill Nursery Café at 2700 Route 890, Cornhill, NB.

We are pleased to announce three excellent guest speakers and NFU members who will be sharing their experience and knowledge on the theme of Farming for the Future: Opportunities in a changing climate.

  • Chris Wooding, of Ironwood Organics, Ontario will present a keynote address called Innovation and Sustainability: Environmental, Social, Financial
  • Av Singh, PhD, P. Agronomist, with Perennia & the JustUs! Centre for Small Farms in Grand Pré, NS. His presentation is called: Turning the Boat Around: Farming as if Survival Mattered
  • Bob Osborne, Owner, Cornhill Nursery will take convention attendees on a tour of Cornhill Nursery and focus on changes and adaptations he has noticed in his 26 years of operating a fruit tree and ornamental nursery in Cornhill, NB

This is your opportunity to take a leadership role with the NFU.  Elections will be held for two National Board members, a Women’s Advisory Committee member, a Youth Advisory Committee member, and an International Program Committee (IPC) member, as well as nominations for the Grassroots Member Award.   Resolutions on current policy issues may be presented to this Convention and if they are passed, they will be forwarded to National Convention.  Please submit proposed resolutions by Monday, August 1 to info@nfunb.org.

We encourage all members to attend this Regional Convention.  Your participation and input is very important in our discussions that will provide direction for our Region.  We also encourage you to invite interested farmers and your neighbours to attend and observe the convention.
